Cycling the Castleman Trailway

Our first visit to a Caravan and Motorhome Club Certified Location (CL).  These are sites that take no more than 5 units and are often very cheap as they don’t always have facilities.  We were pleasantly surprised with this farm in the New Forest called Upper Kingston Farm.  The owner, Hilary, was really nice, the farm had EHU, black waste and water.  What more could you want.  It was really quiet and we both slept really well.

I had picked this location as it was close the The Castleman Trailway which is a flat 16.5 mile cycle/walking route from Ringwood in the New Forest to Upton Country Park in Poole, Dorset.  It follows the route of a disused railway track.  The weather was lovely and sunny so we packed a picnic and set off.

The start of the route was a little difficult to find but we managed to join the path about a mile in.  And what a great track this was.  It was very gentle flat route along gravel paths.  We arrived at Upton Park feeling fine.

After grabbing a coffee and eating our picnic we decided to carry on to Poole Harbour.  We thought it was only a little further and went along by the sea.

At the harbour we stopped for a glass of wine by the river before heading back to Wike.  In total we rode 43 miles, most of it off road.

If you are ever down this way I would recommend cycling this route.  Both of us are quite unfit after the winter but it actually felt relatively easy.

Back at the van Donald cooked dinner, an M&S tagliatelle, and had an early night.

The following day, Hilary said there was no rush to leave.  So we had a leisurely breakfast and I got the drone out.  I thought I would try some of the pre set flights but was so busy looking at my screen that I ended up flying the drone into my nose, which Donald thought was extremely funny whilst I was thinking how would we get a 7.6mtr motorhome into a hospital carpark!  Luckily we didn’t need to find out as it was only a scratch.

After a great weekend we headed home.  This is a CL we would definitely go back to.
