If you go down to the woods today…

Lets go wild!

We wanted to try something different and I had planned a cycle route round Surrey Hills.  Rather than take the car with the bikes I looked on Search4Sites to see if there was anywhere we could park Wike and spend the night.  I came across Albury Heath Cricket ground that had a large car park.  There seemed to be lots of good reviews and it was only a few miles from home.

We arrived on the Friday evening just before it got dark.  The car park was empty so we had the pick of where to park.  This was a bonus as there were lots of pot holes but we managed to find a flat spot.  The view across the football pitches and the hills was spectacular.

We had bought a tv for the van so thought we would set it up to check it worked, which it did after placing the aerial out the skylight.  I cooked steak and chips and we settled down to a night in front of the telly in the woods.  During the night one other van came in although they left before we got up.

When we woke up the next morning the car park was full of football players, walkers and even a couple of horse boxes.  The sun was shining so I took my cup of tea outside and chatted with the locals.  Everyone was very friendly and no one questioned why we were there, I guess they are used to seeing motorhomes in the mornings.

After breakfast we unloaded the bikes and set off on our cycle.  The route I had planned on Garmin got a bit confused and after a couple of hours we were totally lost!  We cycled down tracks, across fields and small lanes that had mini book libraries in bus stops.  Some of the tracks were very stony and Donald managed to puncture a tyre which he quickly fixed.  As it was nearing lunch time we searched on Google for the nearest pub and found ourselves in Dorking.  Feeling full, we headed back to the van, up some very steep hills, to find we were the only ones left in the car park.

After a very quiet nights sleep we woke the next morning to a similar sight we had the previous day.  This time we off loaded the bikes and cycled to Newlands corner for breakfast.  Being a Sunday morning there were loads of motorbikes as this seems to be a meeting place for them.  It was really nice to see so many people out enjoying the fresh air and atmosphere.  We took a different route back to the van to try to avoid going down very steep hills on gravel paths.

Back at the van we packed up and headed home.
