With the weather getting worse, wind, rain and hailstones, we headed even further inland to The Candlelight Inn at Chard. This was another one on Search4Sites and I think it is my favourite pub stopover so far.
We phoned them in the morning to book a table and were told they were fully booked, however the lady said if we could eat early they could fit us in but the table had to be free by 8pm. We booked for 6pm and headed over there. It was a little narrow to get into the car park, which was behind the pub. But luckily it was empty when we arrived at 2pm as the pub closed for the afternoon. The car park had a small grassy area with a stream running along the back. There was a footpath that went over the farmland behind so we headed off on a walk.
At 6pm we went in for the nicest meal we had had so far, with a very nice bottle of wine to go with it. As we were pushed for time we asked if we could take a cheese board back to the van with us, they were more than happy to accommodate this, so we finished off our evening back in Wike.
We had a very peaceful nights sleep listening to the trickle of the stream.
